Lands Manager: Monty Horton

Monty started as the Lands Manager for K’omoks First Nation in May of 2017.  He has worked for First Nations Government in Lands for the past 5 years, including Lytton First Nation, Ahousaht First Nation, and Uchucklesaht Tribe.  Prior to that Monty was a Planner for the Regional District for 10 years, in Nelson and Penticton, BC.  Monty brings a great deal of experience in Planning and Natural Resource Management.  He is responsible for implementing and developing land use policies and regulations.  Monty can also assist you with questions you have about property on reserve.  He works closely with other KFN departments, such as housing, economic development, guardian program, and forestry. 

Monty has lived on Vancouver Island for the past 5 years.  Prior to that he was in Nelson and Penticton.  He graduated from the University of Northern BC in 1998 with a B.Sc. in Natural Resource Management, as well as from Selkirk College in 1993 with a Diploma in Forestry and Outdoor Recreation.  Monty originally came to BC from Southern Ontario for a winter of skiing, and hasn’t left after 30 years!
